A BLOCKED DPF ISN'T A FILTER PROBLEM. IT'S A REVENUE PROBLEM.
By the time the light is on, the unit is already burning extra fuel, making less power, and heading for a derate. Every day it sits is a day it isn't earning — for your customer, or for the bay it's parked in.
THE REAL COST OF A PLUGGED FILTER
Fuel Burned Away
Rising back-pressure quietly eats fuel economy long before a fault code shows up.
Then Limp Mode
Forced regens stop working, the unit derates, and now it's a tow instead of a service.
Gone To A Depot
Pull the filter, crate it, ship it, bake it, wait. The truck is down the whole time.
To Replace It
The bill nobody wants to hand a customer, and the one that loses you the account.

WHY IN-FRAME DPF CLEANING MAKES SENSE
Bake and blast isn't better or worse than what we do. It's just too slow and too disruptive to do more than once. So nobody does it until the filter is already failing. Ours takes about three hours and doesn't come off the truck, reducing the downtime and disruption involved with removing and shipping the filter. That's not a better clean. That's a filter that never gets bad enough to need one.
BEYOND REGENERATION
Soot
Burns offCarbon
Bakes on hardOil
From turbo & blow-byAsh
Never burns. Ever.Ash is the one that ends filters. It's zinc, calcium and phosphorus left behind by engine oil additives, and published DPF research consistently identifies it as the contaminant that permanently restricts flow and drives filters toward replacement. Metal doesn't burn — which is exactly why baking a filter never gets all of it out. But metal does dissolve. That's the part we do differently.
Got a unit in the bay right now?
SKIP THE TEARDOWN. CUT THE DOWNTIME.
Conventional DPF cleaning services are built around removal: pull the filter, ship it, run it through an oven and an air knife, ship it back. That process is slow, it's hard on the substrate, and it still leaves ash and oil behind. We clean the filter chemically while it's bolted to the truck.

HOW IT WORKS
We Come To You
Send the unit details through the form. We arrive at your shop with everything on board, no drop-off, no freight, no coordination on your end.
Baseline & Diagnose
Before anything gets sprayed, we read back-pressure, soot and ash loads and pull the fault history, so we know it's a cleaning candidate and not a failed sensor or injector.
Clean It In Place
In through the upstream sensor port, no teardown. A two-part solution lifts the oil and carbon off the walls, then goes after the ash.
Evacuate & Verify
The loosened material comes out through the exhaust. We re-read backpressure and hand you the before and after for your customer.
WHY JLW’S DPF CLEANING IS BETTER
WHY DPF DOESN'T HAVE TO COME OFF
The traditional process bakes deposits out in an oven. Traditional baking or ultrasonic cleaning can take 8+ hours, and that’s before the filter is shipped anywhere. That’s the main reason filters have to be removed in the first place. We dissolve the deposits instead. The result is the same, without the oven, without the removal, and without the shipping.
Carbon Reduction
Carbon reduction measured on a dynamometer test vehicle.
Ash Reduction
Ash reduction versus baseline in the same testing.
Power Restored
Power restored to the test vehicle after cleaning.
Torque Restored
Torque restored to the test vehicle after cleaning.
We Get In Through a Port You Already Have.
Pull the upstream pressure or O₂ sensor and you're inside the filter. Two minutes with a wrench. No exhaust teardown, no clamps, no gaskets.
Soap for the Oil. Acid for the Ash.
The first solution goes in while the truck idles. The soap side lifts the oil off the walls, the same way dish soap gets grease off a pan. The acid side goes after the ash.
And here's the part that matters: ash is metal. Zinc and calcium, left behind by your oil additives. Metal doesn't burn, which is exactly why baking a filter never gets all of it out. But metal dissolves. It's the same idea as descaling a kettle.
The Second Solution Carries It Out.
It bundles everything loose into a slurry, then we rev it and the whole mess comes out the tailpipe into a catch bucket.
You See What Came Out. Then We Prove It.
We don't just clean the filter and send you on your way. What comes out gives us a visible indication of what was inside.
Backpressure Gets Read Before and After.
You get actual numbers showing the change in restriction, not a promise.

COMMON DPF CLEANING QUESTIONS ANSWERED
DPF CLEANING FAQS
-
Most heavy-duty DPFs should be cleaned every 100,000–150,000 km, or roughly once a year — but duty cycle matters more than the odometer. Stop-start, urban and vocational units rarely reach the exhaust temperature needed for a proper passive regen, so they ash-load faster and do better on a six-month interval. Long-haul OTR trucks that get hot and stay hot can usually go a full year. Units on a schedule stop having the sudden derate-and-tow failures.
-
The most common signs are a DPF warning light, more frequent forced regens, loss of power or a derate, poor fuel economy, and high exhaust backpressure readings. Regens getting closer together is the earliest reliable signal — it means soot and ash are restricting flow before anything triggers a code. By the time the truck is in derate, you've already lost fuel and uptime for weeks.
-
Yes. On-vehicle DPF cleaning uses a cleaning solution introduced directly into the filter while it stays bolted to the truck, followed by a forced regen that carries the loosened material out through the exhaust. There's no exhaust teardown, no gaskets to replace and no shipping, which is why the job takes about two hours instead of one to three days. It works best as scheduled maintenance — a filter that's already fully ash-loaded needs to come off and go to a depot, and we'll tell you if that's what you've got.
-
Cleaning is almost always the right call unless the substrate is cracked, melted or fully ash-saturated. DPF cleaning is less than $1,300, which can be significantly less than replacing a DPF. Replacement only makes sense when there's physical damage or when ash loading has permanently reduced the filter's flow capacity beyond what any cleaning method will restore.
-
JLW Diesel provides mobile DPF cleaning throughout Edmonton and across Alberta — we come to your shop or yard, so "near me" means wherever the unit is parked. We're based in Leduc County just south of Edmonton and regularly service Edmonton, Nisku, Leduc, Sherwood Park, St. Albert, Fort Saskatchewan and Spruce Grove, and travel further into Alberta for scheduled and fleet work. Tell us where the truck is and we'll confirm availability.
-
No. A forced DPF regen is a reset, not a cleaning, and running more forced regenerations can make the problem worse rather than better.
A DPF regeneration burns soot, but it does not remove everything that builds up inside the filter. Ash stays, oil residue stays, and hardened carbon may only partially burn. The restriction that triggered the forced regeneration is still sitting in the filter when the cycle finishes. That is why the next DPF regen can come sooner.
Meanwhile, each regen can mean 30–45 minutes of downtime, uses extra fuel by design, and puts another heat cycle through the DPF and DOC. The ECU injects additional fuel to raise exhaust temperatures, and repeated post-injection can allow fuel to pass the piston rings and dilute the engine oil.
A truck on daily regens isn't being maintained. It's being nursed.
Our DPF cleaning removes the carbon, oil and ash that a regen cannot. Cleaning the filter properly restores airflow and helps the truck return to a more normal regeneration interval.
Then we identify what caused the buildup in the first place.
-
Yes. We can also accommodate stationary off-highway engines. Contact us with the engine and aftertreatment details and we can confirm whether it is suitable for in-frame DPF cleaning.
-
Yes — shop work is most of what we do. We bring the equipment to your bay, clean the filter on the vehicle, and you invoice your customer. You keep the job, the unit never leaves your control, and you don't buy a $25,000 machine or stock chemicals to offer the service. We'll also flag anything else we see while we're under there.
-
Most in-frame DPF cleaning services take about 3 hours. Because we come to your shop and clean the filter in-frame, there is no need to remove it or send it away to a cleaning facility.
-
No. There's no thermal shock from an oven, no abrasive air-knife blasting of the substrate, and no mechanical handling — which is where most filter damage actually happens. The filter is never removed, so there's no risk of cracking a substrate in transit or having it come back on the wrong truck. Nothing about the service alters engine or aftertreatment hardware.
-
All heavy-duty configurations — one-box aftertreatment systems, vertically mounted and horizontal filters, across Detroit, Cummins, Paccar, Volvo, Mack, CAT and International.
-
No — a forced regen only burns soot. Carbon deposits burn incompletely, and oil residue and ash don't burn at all. Ash is mineral, left behind by engine oil additives, and it accumulates permanently until the filter chokes. That's why a truck that regenerated fine for years suddenly won't hold a regen: three of the four things plugging the filter can't be burned out.
